Representative Hashimoto hosted the awarding ceremony for Dr. Hussein Jaddu and Dr. Walid Basha
1. Mr. Hashimoto, Representative of Japan to the Palestinian National Authority, hosted the awarding ceremony for Dr. Hussein Jaddu and Dr. Walid Basha in Ramallah on October 28th, 2010. This was the first time for the Representative of Japan to give the Representative’s Commendation. Around 50 guests including Ms. Janet Michael, Mayer of Ramallah, attended the ceremony. In his speech, Representative Hashimoto expressed his heartfelt respect for the achievements of Dr. Jaddu and Dr. Basha. (The full text of the speech is available here)
2. Dr. Jaddu is the first Palestinian who got a scholarship from the Government of Japan. He studied Information Science at the Advanced Institute of Science & Technology in Japan from 1994 until 1998. He successfully finished his study in Japan by obtaining a PhD degree with Distinction Award. His success paved the way for many other prominent Palestinians. While assuming the heavy responsibility as Assistant Vice President of Al-Quds University, he remains devoted to promoting Japanese culture and society in Palestine.
3. Dr. Basha obtained the Japanese government scholarship in 1999. He studied Health Science in Kanazawa University, finished his PhD program in 2005, and is currently busy conducting research work at An-Najah University in Palestine. Aside from his academic achievements, Dr, Basha mastered Origami, the Japanese traditional art of folding paper into figures, during his stay in Japan. After his return to Palestine, he has been making the maximum use of his special skill in origami for the promotion of Japanese culture, and has organized a number of origami workshops. His endless commitment, support and volunteer work have contributed greatly spreading the word about Japan in Palestine.
