Starting Broadcast of Japanese Educational TV Programs for Al-Quds Educational TV funded by the Government of Japan

 

1. Today, October 5th, 2010, an opening ceremony was held for the improvement of Al-Quds Educational TV Programs and the starting broadcast of the Japanese educational TV Programs through the Grant Assistance for Cultural Grassroots Projects (GCGP), with the attendance of Ms. Siham Al-Barghouthi Minister of Culture, Ms. Lucy Nusseibeh, Director of Institute of Modern Media, Mr. Naofumi Hashimoto, Representative of Japan to the Palestinian Authority and intellectuals from Al-Quds University

 

2. The fund of USD 91,322 to implement this project was made available through the Grant Assistance for Cultural Grassroots Projects (GCGP) of Japan for the first time in Palestine. This initiative aims to provide Japanese Educational TV programs for the Palestinian viewers of all ages through Al-Quds Educational TV. The funds went to the purchase of three educational TV programs totaling a 1500-minutes of air-time which will be broadcasted during the next five years through Al-Quds Educational TV.

 

3. The Government of Japan has been extending economic assistance of more than USD 1 billion to the Palestinians for the last 16 years, including USD 21 millions through Grant Assistance for Grassroots Project (GGP) to finance 300 projects implemented by NGOs or local government authorities in various fields, such as education, health, water supply, rural electrification, women empowerment, confidence building between Palestinians and Israelis.

 

4. Mr. Hashimoto in his speech expressed that the Japanese Government is determined to continue its support to Palestinian people from human security perspective as well as from its political stands to contribute to their efforts to establish a viable independent Palestinian state and to create local institutions to provide basic daily services to people.
